What is bandwidth and what does it mean?

June 26th, 2009, by Chris Ward

Your bandwidth usage corresponds to amount of data (pages, images and files) transferred from your hosting account on our servers to visitors browsing your website over the course of the year. The bandwidth usage is a function of both the file-size of the content downloaded and the number of visitors to your website.

Whilst it may be obvious that a website rich in video, Flash, JavaScript and large images will have a much higher bandwidth usage than a simple text-only website; busy websites may also experience high bandwidth usage.

You can check your current bandwidth usage in the Website Statistics panel (http://www.yourdomainname.co.uk/awstats) For more information regarding this please read the article “Understanding Your Website Statistics“.

All BF Internet accounts have an allowed annual volume for bandwidth usage. If you are unsure of, or concerned about your bandwidth allowance, please contact us and we will advise you directly.
